Dolphins and Raiders contest picks highlight Week 16 action in the NFL betting odds and lines.

I’m participating in a contest based on the National Football League, and each week I have to submit five picks using the against the spread format. This past week ended with a score of 2-2-1, but Week 16 features a ton of intriguing matchups.

During the most recent few weeks, betting on the Lions has been profitable. Despite this, I have chosen not to wager on Detroit this week. Not only has the betting market caught up (the Lions are 2.5-point favorites on the road), but now Detroit is in a situation in which they must “prove it to me.” I am aware of how effective the offense is.

The public perception of the Lions’ offense is that it is solid. However, if Detroit is able to defeat the Panthers by a sizeable margin, then the defense will appear to have been upgraded, and I will have more faith in their chances of making the playoffs.

The lines and spreads are determined and made public every Wednesday, and the selections are turned in on Friday evening. Here are my five picks for the over/under contest for Week 16 in the NFL:

Giants +4 at Vikings
You can place wagers at OKBET NFL Betting on a particular team. Then there are bets that you make against a specific team. A loss is likely in this matchup against Kirk Cousins and the Vikings’ defense. Here is the entirety of my thinking:

Bears +8.5 vs. Bills
Winds with sustained speeds of 25 mph and gusts reaching up to 35 mph are forecasted for one of the games that will take place during Week 16 in Chicago. It is possible that this will change by the time the game begins, so be on the lookout. When the Bears have used him recently, quarterback Justin Fields has done an outstanding job.

Fields is a star with legs and a playmaker on the court. There are ground plays that he’s making that no other quarterback in the league is able to replicate. Since playing Miami in Week 9 and rushing for 178 yards in a loss by a score of 35-32, Fields has rushed for at least 71 yards in each of the last five games he has played.

There is a solid trio of backs that can produce enough to keep Josh Allen off the field and keep things interesting, and they are Fields, RB David Montgomery, and RB Khalil Herbert, who is now off IR. Fields leads the group in rushing, and David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert are both off injured reserve.

The defense played by Buffalo just let Miami rush for nearly 200 yards, averaging 7.5 yards per carry in that total. In spite of the fact that they are in the bottom five of the league in rushing, the Dolphins had a field day against the Bills. Since their victory over the Packers in Week 8, the Bills have a record of 1-6 against the spread when they are favorites of at least six points.

Bengals -3 at Patriots
I’m not about to give up on a Bengals team that has covered the spread in each of the last six games. The offense of Cincinnati is working well together. Since Week 7, the Bengals’ rate of scoring a touchdown ranks third in the league, and their rate of converting red-zone possessions into touchdowns ranks fourth best in the league.

The Patriots, on the other hand, are ranked 32nd in terms of the red-zone touchdown rate that they allow. However, the fact that this will be Joe Burrow’s first game against a Bill Belichick defense is what makes this game particularly intriguing. However, it is a defense that is easily overcome.

The Patriots have been defeated in their last three games by a margin of at least six points, during which time they have allowed a total of eight passing touchdowns to be thrown by opposing quarterbacks Kirk Cousins, Josh Allen, and Derek Carr.

The Patriots have kicked the ball away on 51% of their drives, which is the highest rate of any team in the league. Have fun trying to keep up with Burrow, because the Patriots can’t stop him for the entire game.

Raiders +2.5 at Steelers
Derek Carr has now gone three games without a win while completing less than 55% of his passes. On the other hand, Carr has thrown five touchdown passes during that time period. Despite facing quarterbacks such as Andy Dalton, Matt Ryan, Marcus Mariota, Tyler Huntley, and Sam Darnold, Pittsburgh’s defense is still ranked 30th in terms of the touchdown rate it allows to opposing passers.

The Steelers allowed Burrow to complete passes for four touchdowns while completing passes for 9.1 yards per attempt. If the weather is a factor, particularly the wind, running back Josh Jacobs may have a good day. For the Raiders, he has been a rushing machine, gaining at least 93 yards in each of the past five games, including 109 against the formidable Broncos defense in Week 11.

Dolphins -4 vs. Packers
The Hurricanes have a rest advantage over the Packers now that they have returned home after playing three consecutive games away from home. When they play their home games in Miami, the Dolphins do a better job of stifling opposing offenses. In spite of the fact that home field advantage is becoming less important in the NFL, it is still an important factor for the Dolphins, who have a record of 4-2 against the spread when playing at home and a record of 3-5 when away from home.

When I bet on an underdog, it is because I think it has a chance to win the game outright. The Green Bay Packers have a record of 1-5 when playing against teams that have a winning record. The Packers were defeated by the Bills by a score of 27-17 in Week 8; that game was the last time they faced a passing offense that was as potent as the Dolphins’. Prior to that, it occurred in Week 1 during a loss to the Vikings by a score of 23-7. In light of the fact that the Dolphins are currently ranked 27th in rushing yards, there have been two games this season in which they have performed exceptionally well in the rush. In Week 10’s game against the Browns, the Dolphins rushed for 195 yards, and in Week 11’s game against the Bills, they rushed for 188 yards. More of that should be done by Miami against a Packers defense that allowed the Eagles to rush for 363 yards against them in Week 12. It’s time for Miami to rediscover its groove at home.
